Which quality should you pick?
Twitter encodes every uploaded video into several resolutions and bitrates — usually somewhere between 320p and 1080p — so playback can adapt to slow connections. When you paste a link here, you see all of those versions listed with their resolution and approximate file size.
- Highest resolution — best for archiving, editing, or watching on a large screen. This is what most people want.
- Lower resolutions — smaller files, handy when you're short on storage or sending the clip over a messaging app.
One thing you don't need to worry about is conversion. Twitter already stores video as MP4, so "Twitter to MP4" isn't really a conversion at all — you're downloading the original file format, with no re-encoding or quality loss.

When someone posts a GIF, the platform converts it to a short, silent MP4 that loops during playback — it's far more efficient than the ancient GIF format. Videos on X belong to the people who made them. Saving a clip for offline viewing or personal reference is generally fine; reuploading someone's work as your own or using it commercially without permission is not. When in doubt, ask the creator — most are happy to be credited and asked.
