The link is validated, resolved against the public pin page, and the media candidates are returned to the result panel. You choose one; the file streams from Pinterest's CDN to your browser. Nothing is transcoded on our side, so there is no extra generation of compression.
MP4 is the only video format you need
Pinterest stores video pins as MP4 already, so there is no conversion step and no reason to ask for one. The saved file plays in every phone gallery, every desktop player and every editor. A few tools advertise a converter; usually they are just renaming the same MP4.
Sound is included
The MP4 carries its own audio track. If you only want the sound, any editor or converter can strip it to MP3 afterwards; this tool deliberately does not re-encode in the browser, because that would cost quality.
What the result panel actually lists
Each entry is a real file Pinterest serves, ordered by size, not a slider or an invented label. If a pin has one rendition you get one entry. There is no "4K" badge on a 720p file and no quality name that does not match the bytes. Pick the top entry unless the pin is long and you are short on space.
